Last year, I was contacted by RSS Defense Corp. RSS Defense is a small AR and AK manufacturer located north of Chicago. Before our conversation, I had never heard of this company. After a few exchanges, I agreed to review their flagship AR15, the RDMR7.
RDMR7 is an acronym for Rapid Deployment, Mission Ready, 7 days a week. This perfectly describes what the RDMR7 is designed to be. It is intended to be a law enforcement patrol rifle. Every part of the rifle supports this goal. Continue reading RSS Defense Corp RDMR7 Review→
As a precision rifle shooter, I am a bit of a trigger snob. I was forced to qualify in the Marine Corps with a rack grade M16A2 with a horribly gritty trigger with loads of creep. Whenever I hear the term “USGI Trigger”, I always think back to those ugly triggers. This reaction caused me to put off looking at the ALG Defense Advanced Combat Trigger. The ALG ACT is essentially a USGI type trigger with a couple of added features. After using the ACT, I may have to re-evaluate my prejudice against USGI type triggers. Chantilly, VA, October 20, 2014 – Aimpoint announced the release of a new lower-cost, carbine oriented optic. Coming in at a MSRP of $393, the Aimpoint Carbine Optic (ACO) is designed specifically for the AR15 and M4 rifle. The ACO comes out of the box equipped with a mount that will provide “absolute co-witness” with most AR15 iron sights. The ACO is completely waterproof and offers one year of battery life for the 2 MOA red dot from a single 1/3N battery. Branded Flip-cap covers, ARD and spare battery holders will be available to setup the ACO for your specific needs. Continue reading Aimpoint Announces the New Aimpoint Carbine Optic (ACO)→
When Bushnell sent us one of their AR Optics 1-4x24mm PCL, I had mixed first impressions. The market is flooded with choices for low-magnification variable AR scopes. However the more I looked at (and through) the AR Optics 1-4x, the more I liked it. The scope lists for $418 on Bushnell’s online store, but can be found for as low as $230 from online retailers like SWFA. It offers a pile of features for the price point.
While we have seen an almost limitless assortment of rail systems, grips, stocks and other exterior parts to customize your AR15, few companies have chosen to address what is under the hood. The bolt is arguably the most important part of your rifle. It retains the combustion pressure of your cartridge safely in the chamber. It sees an enormous amount of stress and if it fails, renders the rifle useless.
Sharps Rifle Company released an innovative product at the 2014 SHOT Show in Las Vegas, NV. The SRC Relia-Bolt is an interesting update to the classic AR15 bolt. The first thing that most people will notice is the bright silver NP3 coating. NP3 is an electroless nickel finished developed by Robar. NP3 co-deposits sub-micron particles of PTFE (Teflon™) with electroless nickel. This results in an extremely corrosion resistant finish with some self-lubricating properties. AR15 triggers are a dime a dozen. I have lost count of how many different triggers I have shot. Single stage, two stage, standard GI style, the list goes on. It takes a lot to get me excited about a new AR trigger.
When I first came across the Hiperfire line of triggers I was intrigued. The trigger does not look like any other trigger on the market. I sent an email to Hiperfire and promptly got a reply from Terry Bender, the owner and designer. Terry was happy to call me to explain how the trigger functions and what distinguishes it from other AR triggers. A couple days later a brand new Hipertouch 24E showed up at our door.
I really enjoy shooting AR15 rifles. They are low-recoil and high fun. What I hate is picking up the brass that they throw to the ends of the firing line. With ammunition and reloading components in short supply I am fanatical about picking up my brass. This used to be a very time consuming process on the concrete firing lines and almost impossible if the grass had not been recently mowed. During local matches I would almost always loose a handful of cases. Not any more! Continue reading 3Bucc Brass-Savr Brass Catcher Review→
