Elite Tactical Systems (ETS) Group SIG Magazine Review

ETS Group 21 round magazines and the Sig P320RX with Grayguns X-Grip
ETS Group 21 round magazines and the Sig P320RX with Grayguns X-Grip

Magazines are one of the most critical component to reliable operation of a semi-automatic handgun. For that reason, I usually stick to factory magazines even if they are a bit on the expensive side. However in many circumstances, aftermarket magazines offer benefits that the factory magazines do not.

I have a box full of SIG brand magazines for my Sig P320 pistols, but when Elite Tactical Systems Group announced that they would be producing magazines for the P320, I was interested.

ETS Group is best known for their transparent polycarbonate Glock 9mm style magazines. I have used several and found that the ability to quickly see how many rounds I have left in the magazine is a great benefit. Sure, the factory Glock magazines have witness holes, but they occasionally lie to you and they are not easy to see in low-light situations. The ETS magazines make it simple for me to see if I have enough ammunition left to demonstrate the next drill or shoot the next competition string of fire. They also make it easy for me to make sure that I have exactly ten rounds loaded when I am shooting IDPA matches. Continue reading Elite Tactical Systems (ETS) Group SIG Magazine Review

SIG Sauer Announces the CROSS Bolt Action Rifle

This Wednesday (12/18/19) SIG Sauer announced the release of their new bolt action rifle. SIG simply named it the “CROSS”. While this initially brought up mental images of the Swiss flag (owing to SIG’s Swiss military heritage) SIG claims that it is to denote the dual purpose of the rifle.

Sig Sauer CrossThe CROSS is initially intended to be a hunting rifle. The first offerings will be 6.5-6.8 lbs depending on caliber and barrel length. Heavier barreled precision versions are reported to be coming later.

The feature list of the CROSS is impressive and will cause precision rifle shooters to take note:

  • One Piece Aluminum Receiver
  • 60 Degree Bolt Lift
  • Three Lug Bolt Design
  • Interchangeable Bolt Handle
  • Adjustable, Folding Stock
  • Mlok Tubular Handguard
  • Adjustable Two-Stage Trigger (2.5-4 lbs.)
  • Ambidextrous AR Style Safety Selector
  • AR Style Pistol Grip
  • AICS Magazine Compatibility
  • Available in .308, 6.5 Creedmoor and .277 Fury
  • $1779 MSRP

The barrel uses an extension to set headspace. This should allow for easy barrel replacement at the bench, but will also likely limit the supply of barrels in the beginning. Once we have a rifle in-hand we will see how difficult it would be to replace the barrel.

The CROSS is the first  commercial rifle that we are aware of to be chambered in the new .277 Fury cartridge. The Fury is a commercialized version of the 6.8 cartridge that SIG developed for military contracts. The hybrid case design is reported to allow for much higher pressure than traditional case designs. Time will tell if this cartridge becomes a popular choice in the hunting and precision rifle world. SIG made a wise move in releasing the .308 and 6.5CM at the same time. I predict the 6.5CM will be a hot seller.

I have not had the chance to shoot the CROSS yet, but we have an appointment with the rifle during the 2020 SHOT Show. We will bring you our first impressions of the rifle at that time.

P320 XCompact Coming Soon!

Sig Sauer P320 XCompact

NEWINGTON, N.H., (April 2, 2019) –SIG SAUER, Inc. is pleased to announce the P320 XCOMPACT is now shipping and available in retail stores.

Sig Sauer, Inc. announced that the P320 XCompact is now shipping to retail dealers nationwide. This is incredibly exciting news for a pistol that I have been waiting for since December.

The XCompact is a brand new form factor in the P320 lineup. You could consider it a minimized “XCarry” or the P320 version of a Glock 19. The XCompact uses Sig’s new sight plate optics cut. This will accept the upcoming ROMEO2 optic or the Leupold Deltapoint Pro. This cutout is the same as that found on the M17 pistol. Continue reading P320 XCompact Coming Soon!
