Mail Call Mondays Season 2 #19 – Concealed vs. Open Carry, Riverside, OH incident.

Below I have copied the complete narrative as written by Sgt.Jones. The complete incident report is public record, but I did not feel it necessary to include all parties personal information. While the narrative states that a summons was issued, charges for “Obstruction of Official Business” were dismissed by the state.

TrackingPoint XactSystem upsetting anti-gunners.

300T-detail-rightsideTrackingPoint, a Texas based firearms company begins shipping their XactSystem Precision Guided Firearms. It seems that already the anti-gun fanatics are crying that the sky is falling.

We took a look at the XactSystem at the 2013 SHOT Show and got some trigger time on their .338LM version. The system uses a sighting system with built in laser rangefinder and ballistic computer. You simply “tag” the target with a control button mounted near the trigger. This places an icon on the target in the field of view and calculates a firing solution. When the operator is ready to fire, he depresses the trigger and then placed the center of the crosshair over the “tag”. When the two coincide, the system commands the rifle to fire.

In a story by ABC News gun control proponents are already whipping their public into a frenzy with untruths and exaggeration. Continue reading TrackingPoint XactSystem upsetting anti-gunners.

MINITS iWitness Range Test

MINITS iWitness AW4-RS Kit
MINITS iWitness AW4-RS Kit

When creating instructional videos I often find times when explaining a concept just doesn’t do it justice. It would be much better if I could just show a student what I am talking about. The MINITS iWitness solves this problem. I can easily attach an iPhone to the back of a rifle or spotting scope and demonstrate concepts, scope reticles, bullet trace, etc.

Vision Pro Shop was kind enough to send one out to us to evaluate. We got a chance to try it out during the SWFA SS 3-15×42 range test. The iWitness kit held my iPhone 4s securely through a run at the gongs on our home range. A full review will be coming soon.

Leupold VX-R Patrol 3-9×40 Unboxing

We just got our hands on a new Leupold Tactical VX-R 3-9x40mm rifle scope. This looks to be a great option for a LE Sniper Rifle, DMR, SPR or even a hunting rifle. With mil turrets and a mil reticle, you get on target fast. The illuminated Firedot TMR reticle is a great option for low light use. We are looking forward to getting it on a rifle and putting it to use. Keep an eye out for our full review.

Clips and Magazines

This nation of ours seems to suffer from what I would like to call “Clip Confusion”. I blame Hollywood first, Politicians Second and the Media as a whole last. Now I realize that I do count as part of that last group. Now is my chance to help fix the problem.

Magazine-clipWhen I started my career in the field of arms, nomenclature (the proper names of things) was very important. In fact proper nomenclature could mean the difference between getting to eat or a whole lot of pain and suffering. You see Marine Corps Boot Camp is not tolerant of individuality. You don’t get to call things whatever you want because you think it is cool. You call them by the name the Corps assigned to them or you pay for it. This indoctrination is most likely the source of my ire about the “Clip Confusion”.
