Ruger Precision Rifle (Gen 2) Review

We first had a chance to handle and shoot the Ruger Precision Rifle at the 2016 SHOT Show. The outward appearance of the rifle was enough to grab our attention. Once we delved into the details we were hooked. Ruger designed this rifle to specifically target the precision rifle competition shooter. Continue reading Ruger Precision Rifle (Gen 2) Review

Mail Call Mondays Season 5 #24 – Applied Ballistics Seminar

Applied Ballistics Seminar (Sophia, NC)

ab_seminar_20161103_gh4_004If you have spent any amount of time in the precision rifle world, it is likely that you have heard of Bryan Litz and Applied Ballistics. Bryan is a long time competitive rifle shooter and current member of the US Rifle Team. He is also the Chief Ballistician of Berger Bullets. To say that Bryan wrote the book on modern rifle ballistics would be true. In fact, he has written several. I first became acquainted with Bryan’s work when I read “Applied Ballistics for the Long Range Shooter”. This book is now in Volume III, and contains an extensive library of tested G7 Ballistic Coefficients for popular long range bullets. I was incredibly excited when Applied Ballistics invited me to their seminar in Sophia, NC. Continue reading Applied Ballistics Seminar (Sophia, NC)

The Precision Rifle Media Podcast

Precision Rifle Media PodcastWhile shooting the Guardian Long Range Competition at the Marksmanship Training Center, I had a chance to speak with Kirk Young of Precision Rifle Media. Kirk extended an invitation to bring me on the Precision Rifle Media Podcast to discuss the Guardian Match. Kirk has some great content and brings on a wide variety of guests. The Precision Rifle Media Podcast is available on the web and on iTunes for Apple fans. Make sure you check it out!

Guardian Long Range Competition – Marksmanship Training Center, Michigan (10.08.16)

On a cool dark Michigan morning, I found myself driving up highway 66. I was not quite sure what I was looking for since this would be my first trip to the Marksmanship Training Center. Locating a range for the first time can often be like an easter egg hunt. Thankfully GPS coordinates (+44.482147, -85.178525) for MTC were posted on the registration page.

As I neared the coordinates, I saw a small yard sign advertising the Guardian Long Competition next to a dirt road. A little further down the dirt road, you arrive at the gate to the Marksmanship Training Center. The large permanent MTC sign here makes is pretty unmistakable. Nexbelt – We Review The Belt with No Holes

When you carry a handgun for most of your waking hours a good belt is a critical component. Much like the “perfect” holster, shooters are always on the hunt for a better belt.

NexbeltOne of the problems that I frequently encounter with stiff “tactical” style web belts, is that I either cannot get them tight enough or they work loose. Leather “buckle” style belts often cause you to choose between one hole or another (or punching your own hole). The Nexbelt is advertised as being able to solve both of these problems.

Nexbelt was kind enough to send us one of their new Titan BD Tactical Ratchet Belts to review. I have been wearing the Titan BD daily for several weeks now both in my daily routine and at the range. This is quickly becoming my belt of choice. Continue reading Nexbelt – We Review The Belt with No Holes
