Blackhawk! Omnivore Holster QLS Upgrade

The Blackhawk! Omnivore holster has a huge number of advantages. It accepts an incredibly wide range of handguns without any adjustment. However, for those of us who run a large number of Safariland holsters, there is one drawback.

The Omnivore uses a different hole spacing from the Safariland ecosystem.

Blackhawk! does have their own SERPA QD system, but that is equally non-compatible with the Safariland system. If you are just starting out, that isn’t a big deal. Select the Blackhawk system and be done. However, if you already have duty belts and rigs setup with the Safariland QLS system, this is somewhat annoying.

A simple solution is to modify the Safariland QLS plate to attach to the Omnivore holster.

The mounting holes between the two systems are not even close to similar. You will need to map out the hole placement on the QLS plate and drill new holes.

After that is accomplished, you will need to chuck up a milling bit in your Dremel and grind off enough of the plastic “fencing” around the new holes to allow the screw heads to sit flush. This is fairly easy to do, using the old screw recesses as a guide. Go slow and take a little material off at a time.

The QLS plate will come with mounting screws that fit the Omnivore screw holes. The screws will be just a bit too long to screw the plate directly on to the holster. This is actually perfect because we need to shim the plate away from the holster far enough to allow for the receiver plate reinforcement ribs to clear.

In this case, I just used some #12 stainless washers. Two on each mounting point, placed between the plate and holster, were perfect.

After tightening the whole assembly, test fit it on your QLS rig. If everything is satisfactory, add some blue loctite and enjoy!
