2011 SHOT Show Coverage

Page 4

The 2011 Shooting Hunting and Outdoor Trade Show has wrapped up for another year. It was held at the Sands Expo Center in Las Vegas, Nevada.

The SHOT Show is not open to the public. In order to gain entry you have to have some association with a related business. However in many cases the "association" was loose at best. Photos were prohibited except for credentialed members of the press.

This was my first time at SHOT and I was not quite sure what to expect. Sensory overload was the feeling of the day. If it was new and hot, it was on display at SHOT. If it was new and top-secret it was hidden away at SHOT.

We didn't get the extensive coverage we had hoped for, but we will be better prepared for next year.

JP Rifles

JP Rifles displayed one of their new MOR-07 rifles. MOR stands for "Manually Operated Rifle". This is a Remington M700 pattern design in one of JP's own chassis systems. The chassis is available separately and features a Magpul buttstock and AI Magazine system. It is available with either a round modular type handguard or a flat benchrest style forend. The stock folds to the right side for compact storage and portability.

US Optics

US Optics had several innovations on display at SHOT. The first of which is the highly anticipated upgrade to their illumination module. Previously USO used a standard rotary type rheostat under a threaded cap. This rheostat worked, but was not up to the quality USO is known for. Thankfully the replacement is a digital version. It features pushbutton adjustable illumination, last setting recall and two hour auto shutoff.

USO also introduced an internal bubble level. It sits very unobtrusively in the bottom of the field of view.

Both features can be easily retrofitted to current scopes.
