Rarely does a week go by without an email or Facebook post asking us for a barrel recommendation. The truth is, there are a ton of premium barrels that will put you on the winners board when they are installed by a skilled rifle builder and wielded by an expert marksman. Often, Bartlein, Krieger, Rock Creek and others shuffle for the lead in “most used” barrel of the Precision Rifle Series. Earlier this year Remington announced a product safety recall of the massively popular Model 700. The recall covered all Remington Model 700 and Model 7 rifles produced between May 1, 2006 and April 9, 2014. The recall information found on Remington’s website states that excessive bonding agent in the trigger mechanism could cause an unintentional discharge. If you would like to check if your rifle is covered under the initial recall you can enter your serial number on Remington’s webpage. If your rifle falls under the recall, Remington will issue a prepaid shipping label.
In a story that broke earlier this week on the NBC News website, NBC announced that Remington has agreed to recall all Remington 700 rifles. This could amount to 7.8 million rifles. This comes as part of a settlement of two class action lawsuits accusing Remington and its owners of “negligence, breach of warranty, unfair and deceptive trade practices, and fraudulent concealment”. Remington states the settlement is an effort “to avoid the uncertainties and expense of protracted litigation.”
It is important to note that Remington emphasizes this is NOT a recall. It is a chance for concerned owners to have their triggers retrofitted at no charge. Continue reading Remington set to expand Recall to include ALL Model 700 rifles.
We were at the range today wrapping up some testing on the Bushnell Elite Tactical XRS 4.5-30x50mm rifle scope. Since it will still be a week or two before we are ready to release the full review, I though we would give you guys a really short teaser video showing how to use the T-Lok turrets in a competition environment.
You will note that I leave the bolt open when transitioning between targets. This is a technique used in competition shooting. It does not translate to the real world. In the real world, you want to bolt up a fresh cartridge as soon as possible.

Kinetic Research Group is preparing to release a new lightweight, lower cost chassis system in 2014. The new chassis, dubbed the X-Ray, will have similar ergonomics to the flagship Whiskey-3 Chassis (W3C). The new chassis will utilize many polymer components to reduce weight and manufacturing costs. The X-Ray will utilize the same “backbone” as the W3C possibly allowing the end user to upgrade the forend and buttstock over time. Both the W3C and X-Ray Chassis feature a V-bedding system for quick bolt-in installation of your barreled action. The chassis allows for most oversized recoil lugs and barrel diameters of up to 1.5″.
