Hiperfire Hipertouch 24E Trigger Review

Hipertouch24E_20140106_T3i_009_1080AR15 triggers are a dime a dozen. I have lost count of how many different triggers I have shot. Single stage, two stage, standard GI style, the list goes on. It takes a lot to get me excited about a new AR trigger.

When I first came across the Hiperfire line of triggers I was intrigued. The trigger does not look like any other trigger on the market. I sent an email to Hiperfire and promptly got a reply from Terry Bender, the owner and designer. Terry was happy to call me to explain how the trigger functions and what distinguishes it from other AR triggers. A couple days later a brand new Hipertouch 24E showed up at our door.

Sharing is Caring

IMG_2739As I read a recent thread on Sniper’s Hide, I had to take a minute to ponder my place in the shooting sports.

The original poster asked how the members feel about letting other people handle their firearms. He also threw in the “warrior” theory that no one other than a teammate should touch your weapon. I encourage you to read the original post on SH to get an idea of the full context.

I founded 8541 Tactical with a desire to share what knowledge and experience I have with others in the community. My overall goal is to help the community grow by attracting new shooters. I have found one of the most personal ways to do this is to put my rifle in a new shooters hands. Making that first shot one of the most enjoyable possible is a way to leave them wanting more. Magpul Relocating to Wyoming and Texas

IMG_0099In a press release Thursday, Magpul announced that they will be moving their manufacturing, shipping and distribution operations to Cheyenne, Wyoming.

Magpul is still considering sites, but announced its intent to move the corporate headquarters to Texas. The move will commence as soon as the facility is selected.

Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul Industries stated, “These dual moves will be carried out in a manner that ensures our operations and supply chain will not be interrupted and our loyal customers will not be affected.”

NL_productimage_odd_CO-PMAGSThe move was prompted when Colorado enacted extremely restrictive firearms laws in 2013. Magpul led the fight to block the new legislation, which ultimately passed and was signed into law.

Shooting Outside Your Comfort Zone.

Kestrel ABIt always amazes me to see the highs and lows of range traffic. It never fails that when the sun is out and the temps are mild, the range will be packed. Take a below-freezing day with high wind and snow and I can almost guarantee the range will be empty. Those “ugly” range days are a blessing in disguise. Not only does nasty weather clear the range. It also forces you to deal with factors you have no control over. If you are a professional shooter, training in adverse conditions is critical. You don’t control when you are sent on patrol or when you are called out. If you are a match shooter it is also critical. Ugly weather will test your gear and your discipline. The next time the weatherman says to stay inside next to the fire, consider grabbing your rifle and heading out into it. Not only will you gain skill and experience, but it will make warming up by the fire with a cup of cocoa much more enjoyable.

What Goes Up, Must Come Down.

This .45ACP slug was found laying on the sidewalk today. I am sure our readers are more considerate than the previous owner of this slug. However it bears remembering that we are responsible for EVERY round we fire. Firearms are not fireworks.

PCP Polymer Match Ammunition Review

PCP_title

While PCP declined to send us ammunition for testing, several of our readers got in on the initial offer. Jamie Johnson was kind enough to thoroughly evaluate his lot of PCP ammunition and share the results with us.

Jamie found some considerable inconsistency with the ammunition. We have posted the results below so that you can come to your own conclusions. At the introductory price of $39.99 per 20 round box, it is not likely that this ammunition will be able to compete with match ammunition from Federal, Black Hills or even smaller companies like Southwest Ammunition. I love to see innovation in the firearms industry, but this technology does not appear to be ready for the precision rifle subset. Continue reading PCP Polymer Match Ammunition Review

The Last Stand Review

I love shooting steel targets. Shooting steel gives you a visual and audible indication that your bullet connected. Unfortunately steel target systems are usually heavy and sometimes expensive. Last Stand LLC has a solution. The Last Stand is a set of two molded plastic brackets. When combined with six 1/2″ rebar rods made of Elgiloy Hastelloy B, they construct an A-frame swing set type target stand. The height of the a-frame can be adjusted by varying the length of rebar inserted through the bracket. This also allows a range of adjustment for angled ground.
