Directed by Clint Eastwood and starring Bradley Cooper, “American Sniper” the movie, will be hitting US theaters on Christmas Day. “American Sniper” the book is an autobiography of the late Chris Kyle a U.S. Navy SEAL Sniper and is available now. It will be interesting to see how much of the movie follows Kyle’s life and how much is Hollywood Drama. With Clint Eastwood directing, I have high hopes for a quality movie.

SilencerCo recently released this really slick looking infograpghic demonstrating how silencers (or suppressors if you please) work. The graphic notes that silencer ownership has doubled since 2011. Unfortunately there is still a lot of misunderstanding about silencers. I can’t tell you how many times I have heard people say that silencers are illegal or that only police and military are allowed to have them. Education is key. Adding a silencer to a rifle or a pistol simply makes the firearm safer to use and more enjoyable for all involved!
We spent most of Day 2 with Mile High Shooting Accessories and Accuracy International North America. Scott Sigmund was nice enough to walk us through the improvements to the AX308 system. The AX308 now boasts most of the features of the Accuracy International PSR rifle, but in a short action package. The whole rifle can be broken down into a “carry on” sized hard case. This opens up a vast number of options for professional snipers or even the average competitive shooter who has to shoehorn a rifle into a compact rental car. Continue reading SHOT Show 2014 Day 2→

In a press release Thursday, Magpul announced that they will be moving their manufacturing, shipping and distribution operations to Cheyenne, Wyoming.
Magpul is still considering sites, but announced its intent to move the corporate headquarters to Texas. The move will commence as soon as the facility is selected.
Doug Smith, Chief Operating Officer for Magpul Industries stated, “These dual moves will be carried out in a manner that ensures our operations and supply chain will not be interrupted and our loyal customers will not be affected.”
The move was prompted when Colorado enacted extremely restrictive firearms laws in 2013. Magpul led the fight to block the new legislation, which ultimately passed and was signed into law.
Kinetic Research Group is preparing to release a new lightweight, lower cost chassis system in 2014. The new chassis, dubbed the X-Ray, will have similar ergonomics to the flagship Whiskey-3 Chassis (W3C). The new chassis will utilize many polymer components to reduce weight and manufacturing costs. The X-Ray will utilize the same “backbone” as the W3C possibly allowing the end user to upgrade the forend and buttstock over time. Both the W3C and X-Ray Chassis feature a V-bedding system for quick bolt-in installation of your barreled action. The chassis allows for most oversized recoil lugs and barrel diameters of up to 1.5″. The forend will have mounting holes at various positions for the addition of rails, barrier stops, and sling mounting points. Continue reading KRG X-Ray Chassis for Remington 700 and Tikka T3→
On December 31, 2013 the last primary lead smelter in the US will cease operation. News of the closure had prompted questions about future ammunition supply.
The Doe Run Smelter in Herculaneum, Mo. is a primary lead smelter. It is used to produce lead from raw ore, taken from the ground. Eighty percent of the lead consumed in the US is used to produce batteries. The recycle rate of these batteries is approximately 98 percent. Ammunition production only accounts for three percent of lead used. Sierra announced on their website that the lead used in their bullets is recycled lead, and comes from several sources in order to maintain a constant supply.
Federal stated in their FAQ that it does not anticipate any additional strain in their ability to obtain lead.
At this time it does not appear that ammunition supply will be effected. However it will be interesting to see if this will prompt ammunition companies to look to lead replacements in the future. In the future a new smelter may be constructed with currently existing environmental technologies to comply with EPA air quality regulations.
