Rear bags come in an overwhelming variety of shapes and sizes. Some are simple. Some have a ton of features. It would be easy to crank out a quick review of something as simple as a shooting bag. However, to get a real feel for how a bag performs, takes time. I spend five months working with the new Short Action Precision “Run n’ Gun” bag. I really wanted to see if once the “new” wore off, I stuck with it or went back to one of my previous bags. After five months, it’s still the bag I reach for during most of my shooting sessions. Exclusive First look at the Borka Tools Adjustable Torque Driver (ATD-EFK)
We have been using the new Borka Tools Adjustable Torque Driver-Expanded Field Kit for about a week now. This is one slick little tool. Everything from the pouch it comes in to the hard chrome plated bits have been very well though out and cleanly executed. This tool will most likely reign supreme as my favorite “gun” tool on the bench! Keep your eyes peeled. There will be a group buy coming soon!
Henderson Precision Tri-Trim High Speed Cutter Review
Case preparation is a horribly tedious task. Even when buying new brass, there is a certain amount of prep that has to be done. Anything I can find to make this task easier and less time consuming, leaves me more time for the more enjoyable aspects of precision rifle reloading and shooting.
When I first began reloading, I did the whole trim/de-burr/chamfer process by hand. This caused many sore fingers and arms. It is probably still the reason I hate brass prep. As I progressed, I found that power trimers and prep stations eased this process. It still ate up time. The hot ticket is combining as many steps as possible into one powered operation. Henderson Precision is one of the latest companies to do just that. Continue reading Henderson Precision Tri-Trim High Speed Cutter Review
Ruger 10/22 Tactical Trainer (Part 2 do-over) Ruger BX-Trigger
One of the firs things we noticed when we started this project was how horrible the factory trigger on our 10/22 was. Not only was it very heavy for a light rifle, but when loading pressure the trigger would “creep” forward before eventually breaking. This is not a good situation for overall accuracy. The factory pull weight was close to six pounds. This makes it very difficult to keep precise sight alignment on a light weight rifle. The angle of the wrist portion of the stock also made it extremely difficult to get a “straight to the rear” pull. I knew that in order to get any meaningful results from our modifications, we would need to address the trigger. Continue reading Ruger 10/22 Tactical Trainer (Part 2 do-over) Ruger BX-Trigger
Hawk Hill Custom Barrel Review
Rarely does a week go by without an email or Facebook post asking us for a barrel recommendation. The truth is, there are a ton of premium barrels that will put you on the winners board when they are installed by a skilled rifle builder and wielded by an expert marksman. Often, Bartlein, Krieger, Rock Creek and others shuffle for the lead in “most used” barrel of the Precision Rifle Series. Recently we have been seeing more and more Hawk Hill Custom barrels showing up on the firing line and in the winners circle. We have used Bartlein, Krieger and Lothar Walther barrels on various different rifles. We felt that it was high time that we gave Hawk Hill a chance. Continue reading Hawk Hill Custom Barrel Review
QALO Silicone Ring Review
From time to time we come across some cool stuff that is not really firearms related. When it crosses into the military/LE/high adventure lifestyle we like to let our readers know about it. The QALO line of rings fit that bill.
I am happily married to a wonderful woman, and I take my commitment very seriously. The visible sign of that commitment is my wedding band. Unfortunately a metal wedding band has some safety drawbacks. If it becomes entangled in fast moving metal (weapons, vehicles, lathes, etc.) it can result in de-gloving your finger. If it is crushed, it can case an amputation. None are things that I care to experience. Even a rather slow-paced activity like rock or mountain climbing can result in a serious problem if the ring catches, but the body keeps moving. For these reasons, many men and women choose to go without a wedding band. Continue reading QALO Silicone Ring Review
Xtreme Hardcore Gear “Tank” Scope Level Review
Few things frustrate shooters more than getting a scope level. It is one of the critical steps during installation of a rifle scope. Leveling a scope in the shop can be a tricky process. Usually we are in an area that is too small to allow a rifle scope to focus properly. This makes using a plumb line to square the reticle almost impossible. Xtreme Hardcore Gear has a simpler method. Continue reading Xtreme Hardcore Gear “Tank” Scope Level Review
Kinetic Research Group X-Ray Chassis Review
I have been a fan of the Whiskey 3 Chassis from Kinetic Research Group since I was given the opportunity to try the first generation. I used a Gen 3 Whiskey 3 Chassis on my 2014 Precision Rifle Series competition rifle. The Whiskey 3 is an excellent chassis, but the reality is that not every one is in the financial position to be able to afford one.
What if you could reap most of the benefits of the Whiskey 3 Chassis, but at a fraction of the price? This is exactly what KRG delivers with the X-Ray Chassis. Continue reading Kinetic Research Group X-Ray Chassis Review
